Scharnhorst’s Casual Carpets was founded in 1989 as L.J. Scharnhorst, Inc.Floor Coverings by the owner and namesake, Larry Scharnhorst. Having 30 years of flooring experience under his belt Larry and his wife Sue decided to open their own business.
L.J. Scharnhorst Floor Covering was successful in competing with the bigger well known companies and made its mark in the builder and property management side of the flooring industry. In 1991 the purchase was made for the building we currently occupy at 1725 N. Glenstone Avenue. With this prime northeast Springfield frontage on Glenstone the doors were opened for more retail customers.
Larry and Sue’s daughters, Andrea Roblin and Sherry Benson, joined the team in the early ninety’s and contributed to the growth of the business, they have since moved on to either raise their family or pursue a different career path. Sherry’s husband, Daron Benson, started in 1995 and Andrea’s husband, Todd Roblin, began in 2005. Let’s not forget Jim Carney who started in 1999 and might as well be referred to as our smart big brother with his vast knowledge and 30 years of experience in the flooring industry.
For over 20 years now our company has served the builders, businesses and residences of Springfield. With our knowledgeable salesman, office staff and Installers, Casual Carpets prides itself on providing our customers with excellent service and professional installations.
We believe it is our job to not only assess your floor covering needs but to also learn your personal style and wants. Only then can we truly help our customers find the products that are just right for them. We have a large variety of resources to help them achieve this. Whether it is changing the sheet vinyl in a bathroom or installing a full house of carpet, tile and wood, no job is to big or small.
