This course not only provides you with the necessary credentials from a nationally recognized certification body, but also the knowledge, training, and marketing skills to become such an inspector. PLANT TOUR: FTI in conjuction with Armstrong World Industries area planning...with the flooring insepctor in mind....a "full" day just on manufacturing and understanding wood flooring from a manufacturer's persepective. You simply cannot get this in a clasroom environmnet...you need to see its production adn talk to the people who make it. And what better place to learn how wood flooring is manufactured than not only from the world's largest wood flooring manufcturerer, but at a full integrated engineered plant, as well. As you will not only see the milling and finishing processes, but this particular planks also has a computer driven lathe to take logs and turn them into veneers used in the production (Armstrong only has two engineered plants in North America that have this). You will see how logs come into the yard, how they are stored in the log ponds, how they are debarked and cut into specific lengths, and so on (equipment operations subject to plant scheduling). The plant, located in Center, Texas, employs 550 workers and prior to Armstrong purchasing Triange Pacific in 1998, plant was owned by Bruce Hardwood Floors, which has been in the wood flooring manufacturing business for well over 100 years.
