| Join your fellow design professionals as New Orleans welcomes the AIA 2011 National Convention. The 2011 theme, Regional Design REVOLUTION: ecology matters, will allow us to explore how design impacts our lives and scales the distance between community and a global perspective. The AIA 2011 National Convention and Design Exposition in New Orleans will provide a unique opportunity to explore how design responds to natural regional systems that result in more resilient urban ecosystems where cities and communities of all scales contribute to a region’s sustainability and regeneration. Cities and their regional constellation of communities have the potential to offer the most sustainable and efficient avenue for the development and delivery of infrastructure and services to meet the physical, political, social, and economic needs of people. Nowhere are the potentials and challenges of regional design more evident than New Orleans. Nowhere are there more lessons to be learned from past mistakes and visionary, new approaches to striking a sustainable balance between human needs and the environment. Learning those lessons, exploring new approaches will be the deliverable you can expect from the AIA 2011 convention's design curriculum in New Orleans. | |||
