Article CALHOUN, Ga. December 6, 2013— Over the last year, Mohawk has become involved with Sunshine on a Ranney Day, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating safe, fun and uplifting dream-room makeovers for children with long-term illnesses. At the philanthropic organization’s first annual Evening of Sunshine gala, Mohawk was recognized for its dedication to the nonprofit.

Earlier this year, Sunshine on a Ranney Day revealed its largest and most impressive project yet: a total home makeover for Tripp Halstead, a young boy recovering from a brain injury incurred last October. Mohawk sponsored this project by providing flooring throughout the Halstead’s newly remodeled home and providing high-quality videos that the nonprofit has used to document the Tripp Halstead makeover. In total, the videos have been viewed over 95,000 times on YouTube.

“It is an incredible honor to receive this award from Sunshine on a Ranney Day,” said Mollie Suratt, senior director of public relations and marketing content. “We are enthusiastic that we were able to support Sunshine on a Ranney Day, a young and energetic non-profit that has a clear vision: supporting families of children with long-term illness.”

One of those children is Tripp Halstead. Tripp’s story has touched the hearts of millions and has received national media coverage. The family’s journey is well-documented on Facebook and has a following of over 945,000 users. Earlier this year, the Halsteads purchased a foreclosed home in Jefferson, Georgia to be closer to family for support. At the time, the house was not accommodating to Tripp’s special needs so Sunshine on a Ranney Day stepped in and – with the support of companies like Mohawk -- provided a total home makeover. Over 1.6 million loyal viewers tuned in from around the world to experience the life-changing and emotional makeover reveal with the Halsteads.

“We feel blessed that we are able to make life easier for children like Tripp,” said Holly Ranney, founder of Sunshine on a Ranney Day. “Our goal is to brighten the lives of these incredibly brave children by providing a peaceful and accommodating environment. We absolutely could not do it without the support of our sponsors and volunteers, and Mohawk in particular has gone above and beyond to support us in multiple projects this year.”

For the Tripp Halstead project, Mohawk provided thousands of square feet of flooring product, including SmartStrand® Silk™ with DuPont™ Sorona ® Cascade Forest and Etchware carpet and Mohawk Simplesse luxury vinyl tile, throughout the home. Dal-Tile, Mohawk’s sister company, also donated material for the master bathroom.
