Unique, Curly Waterfall Bubinga Hardwood Now Available Jan. 1st At Rockler Woodworking And Hardware
November 14, 2007 Medina, MN - Rockler Woodworking and Hardware announced today that it has procured an 8-foot diameter log of elaborately figured Bubinga hardwood valued at over $200,000. Most commonly known as African Rosewood, Bubinga is primarily used by custom furniture makers, musical intrument makers and wood turners. Rockler is carefully milling and kiln drying the hardwood and plans to have select pieces for sale at all Rockler retail locations, online at www.rockler.com and in its catalog by January 1, 2008.

“When we discovered this log at a wholesale market in Germany, we were very excited,” said Rick White, lumber buyer for Rockler. “We’ve come across a few slabs of figured Bubinga here and there before, but we’ve never had an opportunity to buy a whole log. We knew it had a lot of potential, but when we saw the curly waterfall patterns it produced when milled, we were estatic. We’re thrilled to give our customers access to this beautiful, one-of-a-kind stock.”

Rockler expects to provide several live-edge slabs up to 14 feet long by 54 inches wide by 2 inches thick. In addition, dimensional pieces from 4/4 to 8/4 will be available in random widths up to 54 inches. Rockler will donate 10% of the profits from all Bubinga sales in 2008 to The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program to help sustain our world’s forests.

Celebrating its 53rd anniversary as a family-run business, Rockler Woodworking and Hardware is one of the nation’s premier suppliers of specialty hardware, tools, lumber and other high-quality woodworking products. Rockler has retail locations in AZ, CA, CO, GA, IL, IN, MA, MI, MN, MS, NH, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX, WA, and WI.
