WADESBORO, N.C.—CMH Flooring Products, based here, has announced the acquisition of Space Flooring, headquartered in Smyrna, Ga. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Space will continue to operate as an independent entity with Kent Goodman remaining as president, noted Hoy Lanning, CMH’s CEO.
“This is a wonderful fit,” stated Goodman. “Space will definitely benefit from this affiliation with CMH. The owners of CMH are a great group of business professionals and our combined staffs have decades of experience that will benefit both established and new customers.”
Lanning commented, “Our companies compliment each other. Although all the specifics have yet to be finalized, there are certain major components to this combination that are worthy to note including the opportunity to benefit from certain synergies, such as freight and logistics.
“While many products are currently offered by both companies,” he explained, “there are products that will remain exclusives to the respective Space and CMH organizations, such as Congoleum. Kent and I couldn’t be happier regarding the possibility for sharing the strengths of our businesses and believe that this move could be especially judicious during these economic times.”
CMH and Space have a combined history of 58 years, and are recognized among the nation’s leading distributors of residential and commercial flooring products. Their customers include national chains, large and small independent flooring retailers, installation base companies, commercial flooring contractors and the A&D community. In 2007, sales for both firms totaled $175 million (CMH took in $105 million, while Space totaled $70 million). The companies serve more than 5,000 retailers combined in the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Alabama.
Space is amongst the largest distributors in the country, selling cushion and supplies, while serving customers in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The company has expanded its product offerings to include all types of commercial and residential flooring and associated products to install and maintain flooring. Its primary lines are Roppe, Azrock, Altro, Marazzi and Decoria.
Along with its headquarters in Wadesboro, N.C., CMH has facilities in Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee, and carries products from Congoleum, Quick-Step, Pergo, Mullican, Harris and Anderson, LG, Estrie, as well as ceramic tile, carpet cushion, underlayments and adhesives.
