Mohawk creates sustainability manager, Adds soft surface management director
DALTON—Jenny Cross has been promoted to senior sustainability manager, Residential at Mohawk Industries, a new position. Previously, she was brand manager for residential soft surface products.

David Duncan, vice president of marketing, said Cross will serve as Mohawk’s expert in environmental marketing and work with manufacturing, product development, marketing and sales to provide strategic analysis, opportunity assessment and content management as well as conduct key customer presentations.

“[Jenny] will be our sustainability champion for soft and hard surfaces,” he said, “and will focus on creating value and position Mohawk GreenWorks as the industry’s leading environmental program.” Duncan called the new position “critical to Mohawk,” noting “environmental issues are a daily part of our business, and her insights and experience will help us take advantage of the opportunities that come from being green.”

Cross joined Mohawk in 2004 and is credited as being instrumental in helping bring to market Mohawk’s environmentally friendly SmartStrand fiber.

She began working in the flooring industry right out of college, starting as a supervisor in Queen Carpet’s Tifton, Ga., yarn plant and then assuming responsibility for quality control. She later joined Monsanto, now Solutia, in R&D, then moved into tech service and ultimately into mill merchandising for the Wear-Dated brand before joining Mohawk.

In other news, Bart Rich has been named director of brand management for Mohawk soft surface products, also a new position. He will be responsible for residential and fashion brand management teams, including aligned dealers.

Duncan said Rich will help define and develop the overall strategic direction of the marketing team while working closely with the sales, product and market development teams to ensure alignment and execution of the business plans.

“He’s demonstrated over and over his value to us and our retailers,” Duncan said . “His creative thinking and ability to bring teams of people together is a tremendous asset as we continue to [build] our retail products and programs.”

Rich said Mohawk is more than just a strong brand, “but a strong innovator. Revolutionary products like SmartStrand demonstrate this. Our challenge is to find the best ways for retailers to take advantage of the ideas we offer.”

Prior to his new position, Rich served as Mohawk’s national accounts credit manager and as national accounts manager (sales, Karastan Division).
