Sustainability drives the Shaw Green Edge
Shaw Floors is founded on continuous innovation and the dedication to doing the right thing. The company has been working for decades on innovative ways of reducing waste, improving manufacturing processes and preserving natural resources.

In November 2006, Shaw announced the development of Shaw Green Edge, an umbrella term encompassing the company’s social, economic and eco-friendly initiatives. Recently, Shaw’s executive team expanded the meaning and purpose of Shaw Green Edge as defining the company’s sustainability business platform to drive business performance, innovation, growth and productivity. Sustainability fully defines Shaw’s business model as the foundation necessary to continue positioning the company as the industry leader today and in the future.

A key part of Shaw Green Edge is the company’s aggressive and large-scale commitment to keeping carpet out of landfills. It is making great strides with the help of Shaw’s Evergreen Nylon Recycling Facility in Augusta, Ga. Evergreen can take type 6 nylon from carpet or area rugs, such as the company’s Anso nylon brand or Evertouch nylon products, and remake it into new nylon fiber over and over again—without the loss of beauty or durability. This recycling process is known as cradle-to-cradle or carpet-to-carpet—breaking a used product down into its raw material and rebuilding the raw material back into the same product.

Since Evergreen reopened, the facility has recycled more than 178 million pounds of post-consumer nylon carpet. Consumers, installers and retailers can turn in their carpet at designated collection sites and may not have to pay normal dumpster fees associated with the disposal of used carpet. Visit shawfloors.com/recycle to locate the collection site nearest you. Shaw has more than 50 carpet collection sites established throughout the nation and this network is growing.

Carpet isn’t the only green product at Shaw. The company also has green offerings in hardwood, laminate, tile and stone, and area rugs.

It’s no secret that green is a hot topic. But when it comes to selecting flooring, green has only been a color choice—until now. With new technology and improved business practices by flooring manufacturers like Shaw, consumers can now show their style and take care of the environment when choosing new flooring products.
