Top cash prizes still up for grabs
Weeks after Armstrong launched its “What’s the Big Deal?” promotion in late summer, the economy was hit with a tumultuous stock market that turned flooring buyers into postponers. But despite the soft economy, the contest continues to exceed all expectations.

The four-month promotion, which concludes Nov. 30, has retailers competing for cash and prizes by selling Armstrong hardwood, laminate and resilient sheet. “What’s the Big Deal?” has not only increased the company’s sales, but it also has the entire floor covering industry buzzing about this creative marketing technique.

Issam M. of Texas was excited to discover he was a $1,000 winner. “It was beautiful to be a winner for the month,” he said, “especially because the economy is so bad right now.” When asked what his plans are for his winnings, Issam responded, “Unfortunately, I will pay some bills.”

Other high earners are simply enjoying the various prizes that have been made available— from jewelry to children’s toys to vacation destinations.

Issam said even though times are hard for most, his business is “so far, so good.” He explained his good fortune in a slumping economy. “It’s because I use the tools that Armstrong gives [the retailer] to help sell the product. Using these tools really helps me push the flooring.” When asked his strategies for selling, he and another winner, Robert H. of New York, were in agreement that mum’s the word. “I can’t tell you my strategies; that would give away my secret,” he said.

So what’s selling these days? “The Grand Illusions line remains popular and easy to sell,” said John B. of Kentucky, another $1,000 winner. “Everyone knows the quality and reputation of Armstrong; they just have to decide what product to buy.” Issam added in addition to Grand Illusions, many of his customers are buying the Bruce Park Avenue line. Both lines boast the look of real, exotic hardwood.

Even though the contest is coming to a close, all top cash prizes are still up for grabs. That includes the $30,000 grand prize and top overall winners in the laminate, hardwood and resilient sheet categories. “I’d love to win the big cash prize,” said Chris B. of Nebraska.

The promotion ends Nov. 30. As such, claims must be submitted by Dec. 2 to be eligible for the top cash awards.
