BOSTON—One of the many innovative items launched at this year’s Greenbuild came from Mohawk Industries commercial division, The Mohawk Group, which introduced its LEED Plus Calculator powered by the popular ecoScorecard from Viridity.
The LEED Plus Calculator is a Web-based tool that allows users to search building products and calculate the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points, along with several other industry environmental ratings.
The calculator does in minutes what used to take weeks, noted Lewis Perkins, director of sustainable strategies of The Mohawk Group. “On average, a firm can spend anywhere from 100 to 200 hours gathering and evaluating data for [green] projects with the majority of time spent on product specification. With the LEED Plus Calculator, we’ve done all the legwork so users can focus on what’s truly important— achieving a high-quality project on time and on budget.”
