Mohawk strikes gold in Chicago
CHICAGO—Mohawk Industries’ commitment to green extends through all its divisions. The green movement itself actually started on the commercial side of the building industry, and the company’s contract division, The Mohawk Group, has been there since the beginning.

As proof, the commercial carpeting manufacturer’s local showroom, located in the Merchandise Mart, received its official plaque from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recognizing its many environmentally friendly attributes.

The achievement is part of USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The Mohawk Group received a gold-level rating for the LEED-CI (Commercial Interiors) rating system.

Mohawk’s recently renovated and expanded space was designed by Ken Wilson, founder and principal of Washington-based environmental firm Envision Design, and is one of a few Merchandise Mart showrooms to boast the LEED recognition.
