Mannington Mills: History, legacy and leadership
About to enter its 95th year, Mannington has grown from a small vinyl floor covering company in Salem, N.J., into a multinational corporation involved in the manufacture and marketing of residential and commercial resilient, laminate, hardwood and porcelain tile, as well as commercial carpet and rubber.
Though it’s grown exponentially since those early days, chairman Keith Campbell vows the company will stay true to its roots. “We incorporate our family values— which we view as our legacy—into every aspect of our business. From community involvement to supporting our associates’ family needs, we dedicate ourselves to our mission of being the best people to do business with in the flooring industry.”
Mannington has also earned a reputation for leadership in the areas of design and technical innovation, which go hand-in-hand to make the most realistic, best performing products on the market. Over the past several years, Mannington has won over 100 awards for products across all categories and over 20 for wood alone.
Hardwood
Mannington’s first foray into the hardwood market was in the mid-1990s. Back then, its looks were limited to traditional designs in traditional woods like oak. Today, however, traditional is just part of the story.
Mannington’s hardwood portfolio now includes handcrafted and exotic looks in a wide variety of species, colors and finishing techniques. Attention to detail is key in the development of these diverse styles, and it all begins with a world-class research and development operation which, according to Kim Holm, president of Mannington Residential, is “a key to our company’s history and its future.” Mannington associates hold patents for over 35 innovations, including that for the dispersal of aluminum oxide in a coating—the company’s Scratchresist finish, which is the most durable in the industry.
Attention to detail goes beyond the technical and into what’s important to the consumer: style. The leading factor in the consumer’s purchasing decision is based on how the product looks, which is where the company’s tagline “Beautiful floors for the real world” plays out.
Over the decades, a lot has changed at Mannington. The company has grown, progress has been made, products have been introduced and improved upon. But through all that change and innovation one thing remains constant: the company’s dedication to being the best people to do business with in the flooring industry.
