Mohawk accepting nominations for GreenWorks Dealer of the Year
DALTON—Mohawk Industries has begun accepting nominations for its second annual GreenWorks Dealer of the Year competition, which pulls together retailers and customers to recognize a spectrum of green and sustainability practices. Any retailer or contractor may apply for the award. Individuals are allowed to nominate themselves or anyone else. Multiple nominations can be submitted by the same person, but only one nomination form will be considered for each nominee.

Jenny Cross, Mohawk’s residential senior sustainability manager, said the award is based on three key criteria:

• Profit. Without a strong financial footing and growth, no dealer can continue to operate and support the overall community with jobs and economic stability.

• People. When communities thrive, businesses thrive. The best retailers are active within and make a positive impact on their communities.

• Planet. Every dealer should strive to conserve resources, reduce waste and support environmentally preferred products.

The winner will receive a choice of a professionally produced, custom TV commercial starring HGTV star and Mohawk “handyman” Chip Wade, or a donation to the sustainable cause or project of his choice.

Nominations can be submitted online through justmeans.com, a social responsibility Web site. Mohawk communicates with customers and stakeholders through this site, creating a forum for authentic and transparent communication.

The address for nominations is justmeans.com/companies/mohawk-industries/3015.html. Nominations can also be done by paper, but are being encouraged online as discussions on justmeans.com can result in Web site user votes that will be considered in judging. Nominations must be received by Oct. 15.

“The award’s purpose is to reward retailers who are taking steps to become more sustainable companies while expanding the conversation about green and sustainable options in flooring,” Cross said. “We want as many people involved as possible.” She added most stores already have practices in place that would make them eligible for the award.

A panel of three sustainable professionals will judge the contest, including Wade, David Cross, principle and founding partner of Abeo Partners, who developed the Environmental Advantage retail course for Mohawk University, and Mike Hughes of Kelly’s Carpet Omaha.

Hughes won the inaugural GreenWorks Dealer of the Year competition last year. “He is a model of sustainability in retail and has even taken steps to educate other dealers about sustainable operations,” Cross noted.

Judging will begin by Oct. 30 with a winner announced no later than Nov. 16. For more, call 706.272.4961.
