Here’s a great photo, taken 38 years ago, marking the opening of the new headquarters building of the Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI) in Dalton. At the podium officiating over the ribbon-cutting ceremony is Walter Guinan, president of Karastan and chairman of the CRI. Holding the ribbon is Miss Georgia of 1971, Jenny Lynn Andrews, and holding the scissors is a very young Governor of Georgia—that’s right, Jimmy Carter. The CRI currently represents more than 95% of all carpet manufacturers and suppliers.
