Design Directives Seminar to Demystify Color Trends
MARIETTA, GA, November 18, 2009—At Surfaces 2010, Wools of New Zealand is sponsoring a CEU (Continuing Education) accredited seminar presented by internationally recognized design authority and Epigenetic Design researcher, Deborah Burnett, ASID, CMG. Burnett will help unlock the mysteries of color and design trends during the three-hour seminar and discuss how features of our environments, including light, temperature, humidity, color and pattern, affect the human body. Epigenetic design explores the relationship between genetics and the built environment to create spaces that support human health and wellness.

“DESIGN DIRECTIVES—Why Trends Emerge, Fads Fade and Classic Style Lives on Forever, “ will be a great opportunity for floor covering executives, designers and decorators to find out how color trends are forecasted,” Burnett says. “We’ll talk about the history of color and look at the catalysts for change,” she adds.

“I’ll speak about how interior surfaces and color affect the body. How and why certain features—long views to nature, natural light, temperature, humidity and certain sounds— help create an enriched environment,” Burnett explains.

The seminar will feature a hands-on exercise in which participants work in groups to come up with their own forecasts. Burnett states, “Instead of giving a lecture on new colors, I will give the attendees the tools, including carpet samples from Wools of New Zealand partners, to enable them to consider their region and audience and be able to forecast colors and give the reasons why colors emerge. They will have a jump on trends so that they can develop products that will be colored in line with coming trends.”

DESIGN DIRECTIVES will be the third seminar by Burnett sponsored by Wools of New Zealand. “Wool is not only a great looking and trend setting design option, but from the perspective of Epigenetic design, the wool itself can address moisture levels by naturally regulating the air so that the body can remain in a perfect state,” Burnett explains. “And wool is also an excellent sound abatement product with a high degree of aesthetic appeal so that it is easy for the design pro to specify and recommend. And since wool is a natural keratin- based protein fiber similar to our own skin, the design problem of carpet ‘color shift’ will not occur as readily when light or certain paint colors are nearby,” she explains.

Based in Nashville, Burnett is a registered Interior Designer, a licensed building contractor, a chair holder member of the Color Marketing Group and a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She is an internationally recognized health and wellness design authority who has shared her views on television and radio.

DESIGN DIRECTIVES is currently scheduled for Monday, February 1, from 1 - 4:00. The seminar is also approved for professional continuing education credits of .03 hours.
