Armstrong Hardwood Somerset Plant now FSC-Certified
LANCASTER, PA, December 11 – Armstrong Flooring Products announces that its Somerset, Kentucky engineered hardwood manufacturing plant has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification.

FSC provides third-party certification confirming that materials used by Armstrong are harvested from well-managed, sustainable forest operations.

“Armstrong has met another environmental milestone today,” said Christopher K. Moore, Plant Manager. “I’m proud that our company has once again demonstrated its leadership and commitment to environmental stewardship, which includes sustainable forest management.”

The certification means Somerset has verified they can segregate and identify FSC-certified hardwood material as it leaves the forest and becomes products downstream. The plant can produce FSC-certified products in multiple domestic species, including oak, maple, hickory and walnut.

Built in the late 1980s, the Somerset facility is Armstrong’s highest-producing engineered hardwood plant, manufacturing more than 500 different skus for the Armstrong, Bruce® and Capella® hardwood lines. The 300-plus employees make residential and commercial flooring, including popular collections like Bruce® Lock&Fold®, Armstrong® Metro Classics™, Robbins® Artesian Classics™, and products exclusive to Armstrong such as acrylic-infused Premier Performance™, which improves natural flooring hardness by up to 140%.

Armstrong’s Center, Texas facility also is FSC-certified. All Armstrong domestically produced engineered hardwood also meets Phase 2 of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) composite wood standards. Armstrong is the first hardwood flooring manufacturer to achieve Phase 2 CARB compliance across four facilities.

About The Forest Stewardship Council

The Forest Stewardship Council is a not-for-profit organization that sets environmental, economic and social standards that FSC-accredited auditors use to certify forest landowners and suppliers and manufacturers of forest-derived products. In many forests around the world, logging still contributes to habitat destruction, water pollution, displacement of indigenous peoples, and violence against forestry workers and wildlife. Forest Stewardship Council certification is one way to improve the practice of forestry.
