Tarkett Receives ISO 14001 Certification
Tarkett announced today the certification of the Environmental Management System (EMS) at its facility in Houston, Texas. Earlier this month, external auditors, SAI Global, evaluated the EMS at the manufacturing facility, which produces Azrock commercial tile, and certified its meeting ISO 14001 standards.

ISO 14001 is an international standard which sets out the requirements for an Environmental Management System. Its core criteria include: prevention of pollution, continual improvement and compliance with relevant national and local regulatory requirements. The process begins with a regulatory compliance assessment and an evaluation of the organization's environmental impacts and aspects. This assessment leads to detailed projects which tackle pressing issues and evolves into a journey of continuous improvement.

“Our dedicated Environmental Management System team in Houston is looking forward to using the system to help continually improve the environmental performance of the Houston facility,” said Anthony Matti, manufacturing director for Tarkett’s Houston plant.

For the past 52 years, Tarkett has kept its commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices at all of its facilities, which now total to 29 production sites in 100 countries. By focusing on the four distinct goals of creating people-friendly spaces, using better raw materials, practicing resource stewardship, as well as reusing and recycling, it enables the company to achieve its commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

“Resource stewardship and sustainable manufacturing practices are part of our corporate culture,” states Diane Martel, vice president environmental planning and strategy for Tarkett in North America. “It has always been our goal to create flooring solutions that are good for people, the environment and the bottom line. It is a natural progression that we can now include the Houston facility to the list of Tarkett manufacturing sites that meet ISO 14001 standards.”
