New S-289 Releasable Adhesive for Armstrong™ Resilient Flooring Offers Superior Performance & More Installation Options
LANCASTER, PA, August 23, 2010 – Armstrong Floor Products introduces a full spread, releasable adhesive for installation of Armstrong residential vinyl-backed sheet flooring, including fiberglass, to provide dealers an even greater selection of time-saving installation options from a trusted, single source partner.

The pressure-sensitive S-289 adhesive gives installers a less permanent bonding option for easy repair or replacement, and is ideal for reducing the remodel workload in rental units, condominiums or other spaces that need frequent floor replacement. While it has a strong, initial grip that reduces product shifting, the new adhesive also allows for repositioning and easy adjustments during installation, as well as easy removal when needed. It improves the performance of loose-lay or modified loose-lay floors while still allowing for the easy removal of the flooring at any time, without tearing the backing or damaging the substrate.

“Armstrong’s CushionStep, StrataMax and FlexStep flooring can now be installed by three different methods, giving installers a variety of alternatives – from ‘easy in, easy out’ loose lay to traditional full-spread installation to releasable adhesives,” said Stephan J. Chmielewski , product manager, Installation, Maintenance & Accessories, Armstrong.

“Part of the reason for using fiberglass or StrataMax floors is to be able to remove them easily, whether it’s for a change of décor or simple replacement, so a ‘releasable’ adhesive, when warranted, is a must as a low-VOC option,” he said.

All Armstrong vinyl flooring carries FloorScore™ certification, guaranteeing that it meets or exceeds low emission standards and will not adversely affect indoor air quality. Armstrong adhesives also are environmentally preferable because of low VOC emissions and low odor, and can contribute to valuable LEED® points for certified projects.

Easy-To-Shop, Single Source Partner

“Armstrong is committed to providing choices to our dealers that help make their jobs easier and contribute to the bottom line, all from a brand that customers tell us is synonymous with quality, trust and customer satisfaction,” said Chmielewski.

As a single-source partner, Armstrong flooring offers an extensive, integrated portfolio of floors in a variety of visuals, colors and textures to meet specific design, performance, maintenance, and installation and budget requirements.

“Dealing with one resource has obvious benefits. For many customers, the biggest advantage is that it’s easier: Easier to do business, easier to order, easier to manage quality control and easier to learn the product line,” said Chmielewski.

As part of the process to make doing business even easier, Armstrong is extending visual branding to its installation, maintenance and accessory line of products, and is introducing a new package design for the S-289 adhesive. The new design will help customers more easily indentify Armstrong products.
