Latest Mohawk innovations take realism, durability to another plateau
Laminate flooring has generated a great deal of interest in North America over the last 15 years or so. Retailers attest to to its surprisingly stable sales volume and consumers are attracted to its value and performance story. To that end, Mohawk has strengthened its laminate offerings across all price points, including its value products, through innovations that provide more dramatic, realistic looks and enhanced durability.

One new innovation delivers the most realistic hardwood edge visual ever seen in laminate flooring: GenuEdge technology. GenuEdge allows the print design of the flooring to actually roll over the edge of the plank, thus creating as realistic a hardwood visual as it gets.

Adding this edge treatment to the already authentic surface designs of Mohawk planks achieves a high degree of realism. Mohawk is using this technology with its new 47/8-inch Barrington product in hickory and oak species.

GenuEdge is also a life saver in the clean-up department. Unlike wide-bevel laminate floors, the unique overlay design prevents the build- up of dirt and dust particles.

Mohawk laminate floors have also become more durable, thanks to the company’s new ScratchGuard Advanced Finish Protection. This helps prevent micro-scratches in laminate caused by routine dirt and dust which can dull a floor’s surface finish over time. ScratchGuard provides an extra layer of protection, preserving the floor’s original gloss level and making it ideal for laminates used in high-traffic areas.

Tests show Mohawk products with ScratchGuard technology are significantly more resistant to micro-scratches than other leading brands. ScratchGuard is being introduced into all products 8mm and thicker.

Mohawk has also beefed up its value products— Carrolton, Celebration and Festivalle/Festivalle Plus—with new SKUs that include exotics, two-strip looks and a new textured finish that has the appearance of lacquer.

Mohawk laminate flooring also has a powerful environmental story. Mohawk recycles over 1 billion pounds of wood annually to make the core boards. In the U.S., this flooring, on average, contains 74% pre-consumer recycled material, which qualifies it as an Environmentally Preferred Product (EPP).

Finally, all Mohawk laminate floors feature Uniclic technology. This patented system eliminates the need for glues or other adhesives, making installations faster and easier. Boards easily slip together, at an angle, or slide together with a snap. And with Mohawk’s Unifix tool, individual planks can be easily removed and replaced if necessary without having to replace the entire floor.
