Mohawk SmartStrand with Dupont Sorona Shows Toughness and Style at Family Circle Cup Tennis Tournament
CHARLESTON (April 6, 2010)—For the second time, Mohawk is putting SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona to the test at one of the most visible sporting events in the nation—showcasing not just the carpet’s remarkable stain resistance and durability, but also its versatility in styling and design.

From April 2-10, Mohawk is participating in this year’s Family Circle Cup Women’s Tennis Tournament, held in Charleston and Daniel Island, SC. One of the richest and most traditional events in women’s professional tennis, the Family Circle Cup attracts more than 90,000 people to watch many of the world’s best players, including Caroline Wozniacki (the world’s number one player), Jelena Jankovic, Samantha Stosur, and Nadia Petrova.

Mohawk is participating in the tournament in a number of ways. The company is providing the red carpet for players as they enter the court, and for spectators as they come into the grounds. Traffic on the carpet is being recorded to demonstrate the durability and resilience of SmartStrand Sorona carpet. Mohawk also hosts a tent with demonstrations of SmartStrand Sorona and other products.

And, during a special “Girls Night Out” event on Thursday, April 7, spectators and tennis professionals alike will get to see just what SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona is capable of.

Designer Taniya Nayak, Mohawk Spokesperson and star of HGTV’s “Designed to Sell” will be on hand as a celebrity bartender. Nayak—who actually was a bartender before she became a designer—will mix drinks like “Magic Carpet Cosmos” or “SmartStrand Sangrias,” periodically spilling the colorful concoctions on the SmartStrand Sorona carpet in the Grand Lawn Bar. A cleaning crew will be on hand to show how even the toughest stains can be easily removed, thanks to the engineered-in stain resistance of SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona.

But that’s just part of the story. Nayak will also be providing design and décor tips to the audience, showing how the styling options and exceptional softness of SmartStrand Sorona can be used to create exceptional indoor spaces. In addition, local designers who crafted the tournament’s VIP suites will be on hand to share their thoughts on SmartStrand Sorona carpet and other design ideas.

Nayak will take the SmartStrand Sorona message outside the tournament, too, with interviews in Skirt! Magazine and local newspapers, plus appearances on radio and “Low Country Live,” a popular local television news and lifestyle show.

“Last year, we emphasized the stain resistance and durability of SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona,” said David Duncan, Vice President of Marketing for Mohawk. “This year, we’re going a step further, and including style and design as part of the message.”

Mohawk has also gotten local floorcovering dealers involved in the event. Mohawk Floorscapes and ColorCenter dealers from as far away as Columbia and Myrtle Beach, SC are helping staff the Mohawk tent, talking with spectators—and making sales to people from their areas. And since Mohawk’s national “Colors of Spring” sale is going on now, any person who stops by the Mohawk tent can get a coupon good for up to $300 off a Mohawk SmartStrand Sorona purchase from a local Mohawk aligned retailer.

In addition to SmartStrand Sorona, Mohawk also provide laminate flooring for the Grand Lawn Bar, the Ice Cream Parlor, and for VIP suites.
