Interface Awarded LEED-CI Platinum for New Chicago Showroom
(CHICAGO, IL—SEPTEMBER 27, 2013)—Interface, the global manufacturer of modular carpet tile and a thought leader in sustainability, has been awarded LEED-CI Platinum Certification for its new Chicago showroom.

The company debuted the 9,000-square-foot space at 345 N. Wells this past June at NeoCon, and helping to boost its LEED score is the fact that the building itself is LEED certified. Also adding points is the incorporation of an efficient lighting design that utilizes daylight and drops lighting usage to 35 percent below base line. New furniture specified for the space is FSC-certified, contains recycled content, and was locally sourced, while several vintage lounge furnishings represent a commitment to repurposing. Millwork also throughout either was repurposed or, if new, is FSC-certified. Other details contributing to the USGBC’s highest level of certification are a reduced water usage system at 40% below base line, Energy Star-rated appliances and equipment, and adjacency to a key public transportation hub.

The design team for the space, which occupies the third floor and houses offices, meeting rooms as well as displays of the commercial flooring, was under the direction of Chip DeGrace, executive creative director for Interface, and included: Boeman Design architects; CBRE project management; and, Interior Construction Group, general contractor.

Earlier this year, Interface, whose founder Ray Anderson was an early proponent of LEED and who guided USGBC in the development of this sustainability standard, earned Gold certification for a new facility dedicated to its Services division in Acworth, GA. The company has long applied LEED-based design principles to all of its construction projects globally.
