Star Flooring Hosts WFCA / CFI Installation Training
Ryan Walker, Vice-President of Star Flooring who attended the daily sessions recapped the WFCA/CFI event, “Last week, Star Flooring in Wichita, KS showed how we “Lead the Industry” by sponsoring training for independent flooring installers in the Wichita region. Forty-nine installers and sales associates took part in the hands-on training for the product categories of wood, laminate, carpet, tile and resilient. The training was held at Beech Activity Center and was taught by a legend of the industry, Jim Walker, who was assisted by the CFI Team of Installation Trainers! Tom Jennings of the WFCA also provided excellent customer service skills to the installers.”
“This type of training is crucial to our success and the health of the industry,” continued Walker. “We had plenty of vendors willing to step up and help us make it happen. This type of activity is what makes our service special. The Star Team of Jacque Jolly, Drew Uffendell, Kelley DeCesaro, Jan Ast, Curtis Goebel and Jennifer Salkil are to be commended for coordinating and managing the event.”
Josh Hulsey awarded the fantastic gift of a DeWalt Ceramic Wet Saw from Daltile to Kevin Wohler of The Décor Center of Wichita who scored the highest in the CFI Ceramic Workshop.
Numerous employees of Star Flooring visited the event throughout the four days as well as coordinating the training. Manufacturer representatives included Gene Jarka of Powernail, Tim Provence and Ron Cramer of Armstrong, David Mesigh of Dixie Home and David Suderman of Mohawk Industries. Vendors who donated numerous items included Herregan, Mannington, National Gypsum, General Distributors provided product from C-Cure, Gundlach and Gun;, ISC Surfaces was responsible for ISC and TEC products, Shaw, Tingle Distributing, Armstrong, Phenix, Self’s, Leggett and Platt and Daltile
Retailer members of WFCA who supported the event included Cap Carpet, Custshall Construction of Clay Center, Ellenz of Tipton, Fleener’s of Greensburg, Geske Interiors of Abilene, Interiors One/Carpet One of Tulsa, Jabara’s Carpet, LBDM LLDC of Springfield, Passow Remodeling, Price’s Furniture of Las Vegas, NM, Pruitt’s Flooring, Star Flooring and Decorating and the Décor Center.
The CFI Certification Team Members who conducted the training included Bob Gillespie (MO), Ed Braile (MO), Roy Lewis (AL), Dwayne Pruitt (KS) and Jim Walker (MO). The WFCA training event was conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday for ceramic and resilient classes. On Thursday and Friday, the carpet and laminate/wood classes were held. Jim Walker presented the CFI Installation Inspector and Product Knowledge Workshop.
In Doraville, GA, during the week of April 8th, the CFI Team, Tom Jennings from WFCA will conduct the flooring installation workshops, the Customer Service Training and the CFI Installation Inspector and Product Knowledge Training hosted by Megs Flooring Installation. Next, the group travels to Seattle, the week of May 13th hosted by the Flooring Association Northwest and Great Floors and on to Pomona, CA the week of June 3rd to be hosted by the TRAXX Corporation.
With the warm reception that the traveling WFCA educational classes are receiving nationwide, it is evident that the attendees are leaving with increased knowledge and skills.
