LUXE Linear Drains Helps Certified Floor Covering & Remodels Rescue a New Bath Addition
In the throes of a delicate seamless addition home improvement project, Sonia Shuh began to slowly lose faith in the current group of contractors she hired for the job. It’s a tough-spot for any homeowner. The decision to either ride it out and hope for the best, or hit the brakes and start all over with another contractor is not an easy one. In this case, Shuh began fearing the worst about the custom bath slated to fill that new addition to her stylish, contemporary home in Cerritos, California, a tiny suburb just south of Los Angeles.

Still, while Shuh considered her options she continued to search for the perfect, high-design materials to fit her vision of creating a modern, sleek custom bath to fill the new space created by the recently completed seamless addition to her home. This including searching the web and skimming through finished beauty shots featured in the latest bath design magazines for inspiration. But Shuh didn’t stop there. She frequently joined online contractor forums searching for advice and more about new products, trends and qualified contractors. In fact, Shuh clicked on one thread that helped her make two important decisions. She found LUXE Linear Drains and her new contractor at the same time.

Here’s where things get a little interesting.

During this particular session, the contractors online recommended LUXE Linear Drains and was willing to answer any questions she might have about the product and process. Shuh had found the experienced contractor source she was looking for and immediately hired Orlando Car, President of Certified Floor Coverings & Remodelers in Los Angeles.

Shuh also chose to indulge in the elegance and luxury of radiant electric floor warming for entire bath, including the new wetroom space that featured a traditional soaking tub and adjacent standing shower veiled thinly by a single clear-glass pocket door just to the right of the curbless, wheel-in-style shower entrance.

Car is a high-energy, passionate and skilled tile and stone installation specialist that frankly, can’t wait to talk to anyone and everyone that cares about the integrity of the industry as much as he does. And Car has already gained plenty of experience working with linear drains in several new bath projects in recent years.

It didn’t take Shuh long to realize Car’s dedication to his craft or that he was exactly the right contractor to come and help rescue the delicate project she feared was heading south. Shuh cleaned house and helped the original crew start the weekend early. Next she signed up Car to work alongside her on the new custom bath design and installation. Before being relieved of their duties, the original crew did manage to build the mortar bed and embed the radiant electric floor warming mats in the first coat of thin-set adhesive.

Car stepped in to take over the project from there. After meeting with Shuh to discuss her vision for the new addition, Car went shopping to fill her order for fashionable, large-format glazed porcelain tiles that featured a textured surface with unique color styles. Shuh liked what she saw and the two quickly agreed on the top-selling tile produced by Surface Art, Inc., choosing the “Architectural Venetian” collection of 12” x 24” thru-body porcelain tiles in a pair of complimentary color styles for the floors and walls of her custom bath addition project in Cerritos.

The glazed porcelain tiles from Architectural Venetian were from its GrassCloth II range in a pair of unique shades, the slightly darker more textured “Cashmere” for the walls and the softer color of “Pearl” for the bathroom flooring tiles. As an extra bonus, taking over this custom bath project in Cerritos afforded Car another chance to work with one of his most trusted sources and suppliers, Daniel Nasserian of Bonanza Trade Supply in North Hollywood. Nasserian stocked Car up with all the right stuff for a perfect, beautiful tile design and installation he hoped would restore his embattled client’s faith in contractor nation.

Finally, it was time for Car to begin the actual tile work. First, he had to address the architectural-grade, 100% stainless steel LUXE Linear Drain’s place in the design layout. Shuh and Car’s goal of designing a sleek, modern bath for the 16’ x 13’ new addition was heavily bolstered by the addition of the LUXE Linear Shower Drain – Pattern Grate style linear drain with a classic repeating square-hole pattern running 60” along the far back shower wall. The barrier-free entry shower’s drain placement also enhanced the beautiful, uninterrupted large-format porcelain tile flooring that gracefully continues up ever so gently over the raised threshold entry before the installation began its slow downhill descent at a rate of 1/8” per foot toward the LUXE Linear Shower Drain running along the far back wall of the shower and room.

“(Shuh) did a lot of research on this project and she knew what she was doing,” said Car. “She was disappointed in the original contractor and was looking for a new contractor to help her finish the sleek new custom bath she had planned. She had ordered several design elements online, including the LUXE Linear Shower Drain – Pattern Grate. The 60” drain showed up right on time and was perfect. It was definitely a deluxe product. No doubt about that. The prior contractor had done some of the basic foundation work, which was another great reason to select LUXE Linear Drains. We could come right in and use the setting materials that we prefer to work with, regardless of what the prior contractor had used. We had no problems with the installation. The drain slid right into place without an extra tie in or hook-up, nothing like that.”

Just as they proved to be in this project, LUXE Linear Drains are beautiful design elements for any custom residential bath. But just as importantly, the ability to place the drain anywhere in the flooring layout makes it possible to design barrier-free, zero-threshold entry showers for safe, easy access. This is a huge benefit for the modern senior aging in place as well as design-savvy homeowners in Cerritos.

It’s a benefit of LUXE Linear Drains that happens to translate real nice for commercial architects, specification teams, interior designers and other professionals dedicated to the design/build and construction of new healthcare, hospitality, senior housing, assisted living settings and more. The opportunity to design safe, yet stylish barrier-free and wheel-in-entry custom showers that meet all ADA-requirements is an invaluable new option for the super-competitive commercial building industry. In fact, several leading hospitality brands have also benefitted from LUXE Linear Drains versatility to address the hugely popular trend of converting existing bath tubs into custom design standing showers in favor of the modern, fast-paced traveler of the day.
