Lunada Bay Presents Shinju Ceramic Tile, Ceramic Tile Inspired by the Deep and Mysterious Sea and its Oysters
(Harbor City, CA, April 14, 2015) If you want to understand the essence of a place, then go in search of its oysters. The ancient creatures will reveal secrets of the world through their mottled, ruffled shells, sweet-to-briny flavors, and the glimmering pearls that may hide inside.

Lunada Bay Tile harvests inspiration from these sea treasures and the waters they live in for its newest collection of ceramic tile, Shinju. Just as time and place affects an oyster’s appearance and flavor, the texture and color of Shinju will reflect the light and style of its surroundings.

“Shinju, which means ‘pearl’ in Japanese, is a study of texture, light and repetition,” says Feras Irikat, director of design and marketing for Lunada Bay Tile. “This modern collection of ceramic tiles works beautifully alone or in combination with glass collections.”

Four tile shapes and five colors make up the Shinju collection:

Crest: Named after the highest point of a wave, Crest is a 4-inch dimensional hexagon ceramic tile with a slightly raised center.

Reef: This contemporary blend of rectangular tiles are inspired by ocean reefs — the ridge of jagged rock, craggy coral, or coarse sand just above or below the surface of the sea.

Swell Mosaics: These sheet-mounted mosaics includes multi-sized rectangular tiles inspired by ocean swells — the slow, regular movement of the sea in rolling waves that do not break.

Tide: This 4 x 4-inch textured tile emulates the alternate rising and falling of the sea that occurs with the rise of the moon and the sun.

The five colors of Shinju are named after some of the world’s favorite oysters: Kumamoto (white), Kushi (light silver), Moonstone (dark silver), Pacific (chocolate brown/bronze), and Olympia (dark copper).
