Only 75 of these exceptional rugs will be produced, making Mystic Garden a collector’s item from the beginning.
Inspired by nature and steeped in the heritage of Persian design, Mystic Garden has a natural, organic feel, but maintains distinctive Persian traits. “I love that about it,” says Tracy Pruitt, Karastan’s vice president of design, who was instrumental in designing this stunning rug. “There is a real return to the appreciation for Persian traditional patterns, which have been the foundation of Karastan since its inception. Our goal has always been to create current, relevant, heirloom-quality rugs that are representative of traditional heirloom rugs.”
The Mystic Garden pattern captures nature in its design through tree and flower motifs, including Pruitt’s favorite element, the weeping willow tree. “It’s stylized, but you can still make out what it is. The delicate draping branches are so elegant,” he explains, “along with the cypress trees and delicate flowers. They create a garden-like feel.”
Woven of wool and silk, Mystic Garden is Karastan’s first-ever use of silk in an Axminster rug. “The sparkle and shine of the silk gives the rug a mystical quality,” Pruitt explains. “The neutral color palette is inspired by nature with its sage and evergreen hues, then the sapphire and amber tones punch it up. It’s neutral and dramatic at the same time, which is something that will speak to today’s decorators and consumers.”
Mystic Garden takes Persian design and makes it relevant to today’s lifestyle with elements of contemporary design, such as the “eroded” or faded border. “It alludes to the idea that the rug is an antique that has been care-worn for decades. The elimination of a distinct traditional border also makes the rug feel more casual and soft,” says Pruitt. Combining heirloom and modern-day design touches gives the rug exceptional versatility. It’s at home in casual or formal living areas.
