Ecore Earns Gold at Healthcare Design Expo
Lancaster, PA (November 18, 2015) – Ecore, a company that transforms reclaimed waste into performance surfaces that makes people’s lives better, is proud to announce its Terrain rx flooring received Gold in the Resilient Flooring Category during the 2015 Nightingale Awards. Sponsored by Contract magazine in conjunction with The Center for Health Design, the Nightingale Product Design Awards recognize the best new products exhibited at the annual Healthcare Design Expo & Conference, held November 14-17 in Washington, D.C.

Available under Ecore Commercial Flooring (ECF), Terrain rx features Ecore’s patented itstru technology, which fusion bonds a contemporary, modern Polyflor heterogeneous sheet vinyl surface, which looks like stone or linen, to a 5 millimeter Ecore performance rubber backing. Ecore’s rx family of products, which already includes Forest rx, is unique because the surfaces offer a prescription for more. Floors that are more quiet, more ergonomic, and more safe.

IIC tests (in accordance with ASTM E492 and E2179) demonstrate both Terrain rx and Forest rx allow the most basic assemblies to exceed strict IIC 50 building code requirements, reducing impact sound by more than 20 decibels with no ceiling.

In addition, Terrain rx and Forest rx provide improved ergonomics for active patients, residents, and staff. Studies have shown a more comfortable and content staff results in a better level of patient care. Terrain rx and Forest rx are also designed to reduce the risk of injury associated with falls. Force reduction tests have shown fall impact is reduced by 16.9 percent (in accordance with DIN 18032) when Terrain rx or Forest rx are installed. These surfaces can also reduce the severity of patient or resident injuries, mitigating liability for the owners of healthcare facilities.

For these reasons, both Terrain rx and Forest rx are ideal for the healthcare environment. Both products’ PUR enhanced wear layer also makes the surfaces durable, and cleaning simply requires a dry and wet mop and buffing. No waxing is needed.

About Ecore
Since 1871, Ecore has been transforming reclaimed waste into unique surfaces that make people’s lives better. What started with simple cork closures has evolved into a diverse portfolio of products solving complex problems in applications ranging from playgrounds, weight rooms, and turf fields to hospitals, hotels, and retail environments. Ecore is driven everyday by a simple question, “Can a floor do more?” YES. At Ecore, we create products based on the simple notion that floors should elevate beyond current expectations. Ecore’s energy is focused on the interaction between people and the surface. As a result, we engineer performance well beyond industry standards related to acoustics, ergonomics, and safety.
