C&R Flooring Collaborating with Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. Foundation
C&R Flooring, the leading experts of flooring and installation in New England, is partnering with the Gary Sinise Foundation’s Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment (R.I.S.E.) program to build a custom wheelchair-accessible Smart Home for U.S. Army Captain Luis Avila and his family. C&R Flooring will oversee the installation and finishing of the wood flooring for the home.

The ground breaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, February 16th, in Chevy Chase, Maryland, where the house will reside. Captain Avila, who served five combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, was nearly killed in 2011 by an IED blast and has faced multiple challenges since - including two strokes and the amputation of his left leg. The Avila house marks the R.I.S.E. program’s 41st project, which intends to give severely wounded veterans increased mobility and self-reliance.

Chris Zizza, President of C&R Flooring, attended the ceremony to represent the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA), the not-for-profit trade association representing all segments of the hardwood flooring industry.

“The NWFA is proud to be a partner with the Gary Sinise Foundation in providing the perfect surface for the needs of our residents,” Zizza told the crowd on Tuesday. “I was fortunate enough to be involved in another home building effort back in 2005 called Mission Mississippi, under the tagline ‘Americans Helping Americans,’ and it feels good to continue the work of that tagline once again.”

Zizza has always been a passionate advocate of charity work personally and within the flooring industry through C&R Flooring and the NWFA. Both Zizza and Sinise are past recipients of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and this project exemplifies their commit to public service.
