RPP Accepted into ICC 700 National Green Building Standard
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (April 21, 2016) – NWFA’s Responsible Procurement Program (RPP) has been accepted into the 2015 edition of NAHB’s ICC 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS). NGBS is the only residential green building rating system approved by ANSI as an American National Standard. Certification to this green building standard provides a credible pathway for the design and construction of sustainable residential buildings, with the goal of minimizing their environmental footprint.

RPP is listed in the Renewable Materials section of the Resource Efficiency chapter along with ATFS, CSA, FSC, PEFC, and SFI. Wood-based products that are certified to the requirements of one of these programs are eligible to receive points toward a National Green Building Standard Certified Home.

The Responsible Procurement Program (RPP) is a joint initiative between leading environmental groups and wood flooring manufacturers committed to producing products that are sourced from environmentally and socially responsible sources, improving forest sustainability for future generations. Participating manufacturers commit to continuous progress within the RPP framework. The RPP provides progressive “tiers” that act like rungs on a ladder on which participants move gradually upward toward ever-higher levels of social and environmental performance.

“At Mannington, we are thrilled that this program continues to be recognized by green building standards,” says Dan Natkin, Senior Director at Mannington. “The ANSI acceptance is yet another confirmation that the program is worthwhile to both manufacturers and customers.”

Home Innovations has certified almost 75,000 homes/units to NGBS since its inception in 2009. Nearly 77,000 additional homes/units are in-process. “It is not surprising that NGBS is being so well received by green builders and designers” says John Forbes, NWFA Director of Manufacturer Services. “The NGBS open development process is very rigorous,” he explains, “yet open to innovative approaches and techniques that encourage its marketability.”

National Green Building Standard certification provides independent, third-party verification that a residential project is designed and built to provide a healthy, efficient, environmentally friendly home. “Today’s discerning consumer expects higher levels of transparency in their major purchases,” says John Forbes. “NWFA is proud to partner with NGBS to help provide products that fill that demand.”

The National Wood Flooring Association is a not-for-profit trade organization, with more than 3,000 member companies worldwide, dedicated to educating consumers, architects, designers, specifiers and builders in the uses and benefits of wood flooring. NWFA members receive the best in educational training, benefits, technical resources and networking, to advance their professionalism and success. The NWFA is located at 111 Chesterfield Industrial Boulevard, Chesterfield, MO 63005, and can be contacted at 800.422.4556 (USA & Canada), 636.519.9663 (local and international), or online at www.nwfa.org.
