Atlanta, GA, November 24, 2007- Until a few years ago, most wood floors in America were finished with fairly high levels of gloss. Urethane top coating systems were used to protect the floor and to achieve these levels of gloss. As wood floor customers have come to desire more of a natural look in their floors that complements the natural beauty of wood, gloss levels have been reduced to satin or even matte look. With the advent of older looking floors, such as scraped or antiqued floors, less gloss has become even more important in an attempt to achieve a natural, old world look.
A technologically advanced natural oil finish, Rubio® Monocoat, has now made its appearance in the US. This finish has been successfully applied worldwide for many years but was not offered in the US since, until recently, there was little interest in a natural, antique, old world look.
Monocoat is produced by Muylle-Facon of Belgium. Muylle-Facon was founded in 1906 as a manufacturer of high-quality putty and is now an important producer of waterproof products, coatings and sealers impermeable and impervious to water, and other specialties for buildings.
It’s first range of wood treatment products was launched in 1962. Close collaboration between the laboratory, the sales-team and the applicators has resulted in the development of the unique MONOCOAT range.
Monocoat differs significally from any other finish that is currently available in the States. It offers color and protection in a single coating and is environmentally sound - no VOC (volatile organic compounds), whereas other finishes require multiple coatings and several trips to job sites, and manage to be low on VOC, but are not free of VOC.
Monocoat offers 34 rich colors, a choice of matte or satin sheen, and is easy to apply, maintain, and repair.
Monocoat adheres with the first microns of wood by molecular bonding. As a result, one-step coating Monocoat Natural Oil can cover an average 400 sq. ft. of floor per liter. And because of molecular bonding, no surface film can form, and no variable saturation can occur.
The Monocoat molecular bond creates durable, long lasting protection. After a reaction time of just 15 seconds, the fibers bond. When all the free cellulose fibers of the wood have molecularly bonded, superfluous oil will not be accepted by the wood or by the bonded Monocoat layer itself. Overlaps, starting marks, and varying color densities are avoided.
The first layer of Monocoat Natural Oil finish bonds fully to the wood surface. Not only is a second coat not required, the finished wood will not accept a second coat. The same action that protects against overlaps and color variance causes the process to complete in a single coat.
Monocoat Natural Oil finish bonding technology allows local touch up of damaged areas or scratches, because only the free wood fibers will take the touchup coating. The finished margins next to the scratched or damaged area will not accept new Monocoat. After a 10 minute waiting period, just wipe away superfluous oil. There is no overlapping, or additional density buildup at the margins.
